During the weekend long event, the riders honed their abilities through lessons relating to foundations in horsemanship. The main objectives of the course were to teach participants riding groundwork and how to build solid relationships with their horses. Brannaman emphasized the importance of the riders’ awareness of their horse and built confidence in the horse and rider duos during the program. 19 participants took part in cow working and ranch roping during the second segment of the clinic, improving their cattle handling skills and ability to cut a cow out of a herd. The ranch roping participants also worked on a new skill, the figure 8, a special way to throw a rope to capture cattle. To test their newly acquired know-how, the Bay Harbor Equestrian Club held their first figure 8 contest the last day of the Buck Brannaman Clinic. Six ropers participated and Bay Harbor Equestrian Club’s Manager Alicia Byberg-Landman won the contest catching the cow four times. Larry Bourke took second place catching the cow three times. Overall the event was a tremendous success and was enjoyed by all involved. The Bay Harbor Equestrian Club is open to the public year round.
