Aspects of America, opening concert of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra’s ’22 – ’23 season, will be held at 7 pm on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. The journey through the history of American music spotlights composers from the late 19th century to present day.

Featured is the 2022 Charles F. Davis Young Artist Competition winner Karlie Thomas, 15, of Charlevoix, performing with the orchestra on saxophone in Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche concerto.

Composers represented are William Grant Still, Astor Piazzolla, Samuel Barber, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Darius Milhaud, Aaron Jay Kernis, William Bolcom, Marcus Paus, and Morton Gould.

A pre-concert talk by Libor Ondras, orchestra conductor and music director, starts at 6 p.m. in the Community Engagement Room.

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is a non-profit organization headquartered in downtown Petoskey. Tickets from $35 - $65 for the Oct. 1 event are available at www.glcorchestra.org.  The concert is free for veterans, active service members and students 18 and under by calling 231-487-0010.
